The Queen’s Green Canopy

Green Canopy – The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee
The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

In 2022, Her Majesty The Queen will become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee,
seventy years of service, having acceded to the throne on 6th February 1952 when Her Majesty was 25 years
old. There will be year-long Platinum Jubilee celebrations throughout the United Kingdom, the
Commonwealth and around the world as communities come together to celebrate The Queen’s historic
reign. An extended bank holiday, from Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th June, will provide an opportunity for
communities and people throughout the United Kingdom to come together to celebrate the historic
milestone.

The four days of celebrations will include public events and community activities, as well as national
moments of reflection on The Queen’s 70 years of service. For more information on this landmark event

The Queen’s Green Canopy – “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee”

The aim of The Queen’s Green Canopy is to thank Her Majesty The Queen for her exceptional service,
celebrate her Platinum Jubilee, and promote the importance of trees to the environment through the
encouragement of tree planting and tree preservation across the nation. It is a unique tree planting initiative
created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022, by inviting people to “Plant Trees for the Jubilee”.
With a focus on planting sustainably, the Queen’s Green Canopy will encourage the planting of trees to
create a legacy in honour of The Queen’s leadership of the Nation, which will benefit future generations. At a
time of such concern for our planet and the climate, the planting of individual trees, woods large and small
and hedges will go some way to addressing those issues and promote wildlife and biodiversity.

The Lord-Lieutenant for Clackmannanshire would like to invite the people of the county to participate in The
Queen’s Green Canopy and to “Plant a tree for the Jubilee”. Any tree planting being done on private land
between October 2021 to March 2022 or October to December 2022 can be included in this positive and
inclusive initiative.

The Woodland Trust are very generously making 3 million saplings available for schoolchildren, youth
groups, local organisations, and community groups to plant. Trees can be ordered online at
https://queensgreencanopy.org. Trees may also be purchased directly from The Woodland Trust or from
local suppliers for individuals or private companies and included in the Green Canopy.
More information can be found on the official website for The Queen’s Green Canopy at
https://queensgreencanopy.org

From October, you can upload details and photographs of your trees and hedges planted for the jubilee on
to the Queen’s Green Canopy map https://queensgreencanopy.org/map-education-hub/qgc-map/#

Official plaques to mark the occasion for generations to come will be available to order online from
September and we are sourcing locally made plaques to help this initiative.
