SIR GEORGE REID KT FRSE

Reid.jpg
The Lieutenancy was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former Lord-Lieutenant, Sir George Reid, who held that position between 2011 and 2014. A son of Tullibody, George was deeply proud of his Clackmannanshire roots and would do anything he could to promote his home County. He was MP for the old Clackmannanshire and East Stirling seat (not too dissimilar to the current Alloa and Grangemouth incarnation) when the SNP first made a large impression on Parliament in the mid-1970s. He went on to become an MSP in and, of course, the Presiding Officer of, the Scottish Parliament, a role well suited to his skills and intellect.
Although only Lord-Lieutenant for a relatively short period, he left his mark on the role and the County and handed over the Lieutenancy in good shape to the current incumbent, Johnny Stewart. He served in a number of other voluntary and ambassadorial roles throughout his life and was working in tertiary education even well into his 80s.
He is survived by his wife Daphne and daughter Morag to both of whom the Lieutenancy sends its deepest condolences at what will be a very sad time for both of them and the whole of the wider family.
