A voluntary group from Sauchie who work in the community to increase inclusion and participation has been honoured with the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, the MBE for voluntary groups in the UK.

The group provides a focus for local residents by delivering a full programme of activities to create strong community cohesion in Sauchie. In recent years 2 of the group have won Citizen of The Year for Clackmannanshire and others have been finalists. They also won best non-profit award 2017 at Clackmannanshire Business Awards 2017 and also the 2017 Community Impact Award.

Sauchie Community Group is one of 250 volunteer-led groups to receive the prestigious award this year. The number of awarded groups has increased again this year, demonstrating the continuous expansion and value of the voluntary sector in today’s society.

This is the highest award given to volunteer groups across the UK to recognise exceptional service within their communities. The recipients of the award are announced each year on 2nd June - the anniversary of the Queen’s Coronation.

This year’s awardees are incredibly diverse, innovative and impactful, ranging from groups like Sauchie Community Group providing social care, to those supporting the arts, heritage sports and education.

Sauchie Community Group will receive the award from the Lord Lieutenant of Clackmannanshire later this summer.

Lord Lieutenant of Clackmannanshire, Johnny Stewart, said:

I am absolutely delighted that this group has won such a prestigious award for its work over the past 25 years. The work of the volunteers is outstanding and gives many highly vulnerable people new hope and motivation to feel valued. They are making a huge impact and are transforming lives of isolated older people, the unemployed, young people and the whole community.

Sauchie Community Group Centre Manager, Craig Miller, said:
