The sun was definitely shining this afternoon when Provost Donald Balsillie and Deputy Lieutenant Craig Dunbar were privileged to meet Nan Gordon to make a formal presentation on behalf of the Council and Crown to this lively and entertaining centenarian.
Although she celebrated the big day on 16th July with a small and select group, this was the first occasion upon which it was possible to meet with her and formally present the Royal Greeting and a couple of small gifts to mark such an important day in her long and eventful life. She gave all present an entertaining run down on her early and working life and was clearly very proud of her links to the Burgh of Alloa. When told that she had two men kneeling before her for the photograph, she replied "That's been happening my whole life!!". We were all invited back to celebrate her 101st birthday next Summer.
The image is of the Provost and Deputy Lieutenant with Nan receiving the Royal Message, a bouquet and a small gift which she will no doubt enjoy later in the day.
