In a busy week for the Lieutenancy, Deputy Lieutenant Hector Nicolson had the pleasure of meeting Jim Thomson on the occasion of his 100th birthday. Jim was born in Garden, Banffshire, was married at 19 and conscripted at 20, working on the Burma railway and a POW for 6 years.
He worked on farms after the war and settled in Menstrie to be nearer to his family and is where he still lives to this day. The image shows Jim flanked by Hector Nicolson and Provost Tina Murphy who joined him on this happy occasion.
